Vanity Fair Yoga Pictorial

In their June issue, Vanity Fair had a pictorial on yoga's leading practitioners. Along with the Stings and the supermodels, there were even a couple of Indians in there. Of course, you had to have founded a major yoga school to have that honor. The outtakes were more of the same, mostly. Still, no Bikram which is kinda surprising. Payback for his (All American) chutzpah to patent yoga sequences, perhaps?

Macaca Fracas Revisited

What a difference a month makes! In mid July, polls showed Senator Allen leading his opponent, Jim Webb, by 11 points. After the Senator's macaca moment, Zogby finds Allen trailing. Admittedly, he's only behind one percentage point, well within the margin of error. But such a severe loss of momentum is liable to go down in history, as Zogby puts it, as one "colossal political crackup."

To gauge the national impact of this brouhaha, look no further than CafePress where the number of entrepreneurs hawking macaca themed products are up to about 235, nearly double from a week ago. Yes, you too can own a rectangle magnet, bumper sticker, t-shirts, mousepads, and, um, thongs with one or more of the following designs:

Update: For an absolutely great rejoinder, check out RamR's diary, Sen Allen, Welcome To America. Bravo!

BadKarma NYC

Our friend Biraj Lala, one of the few desi folks we know who has genuinely earned the right to call himself a thespian, recently upped his digs in SF and left for the colder climes of NYC. BadKarma NYC is his new venture - their mission is to create a clothing line geared exclusively towards South Asians, a desi version of FUBU (For Us By Us) if you will. They've initially started off with tees but, if this thing really clicks, there's more gear planned. Our best to Biraj on his new effort and here's to many ladies sporting "Brown Sugar" and "Spicy" t-shirts at a party near you!
